Community Lament Psalm

God, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, your children need you. God, those that murder us in the street like stray dogs that have no home,
Are the same ones that put their right hand over their heart and vowed their life to protect and serve us,
Yet, they shoot us in the blink of an eye if we make any quick movements,
They leave the body of our black brothers and sisters slain in the middle of the street for hours like roadkill,
Not caring for the dead or their families,
Not caring that they just used their good for evil,
Not caring that they abused the power that was given to them, Not caring that they will have to answer to you one day, Thinking that they are serving the God of the scriptures, When they are murdering his people.
God help them!
God help us!
God move on your children’s behalf! We know that you do not have favorites God,
That you have adopted all of humanity as your sons and daughters to be co-heirs to your throne.
God help them to see their wicked ways and the errors of their deceitful hearts.
Praise be to Yahweh! The lover of our soul.

We trust in you knowing that you will vindicate us. That you will bring about change for your people. You delight in covering and keeping your children.

Individual Lament Psalm

Hear me O Lord!
Why must I fear for my little black boy’s life?
That he will be slain in the street like an animal carcass
Why must I fear the possibility of mourning my son’s absence?
That a police officer will mistake his iced tea and skittles for a gun.
Why must I fear my son growing older each and every day?
That media and society will view him as a threat because of the color of his skin. Why must I pray over his 9-year-old head each night?
That the amount of melanin in his skin doesn’t automatically make him a criminal. God,
I need my son to live
I need my son to not be a statistic
I need my son to have the same advantages as other boys his age
The same way you covered Daniel in the Lion’s Den,
I need you to cover him.
God, I praise you for who you are and what you are going to do.

We know that you are calling us to prayer AND action. Lord, lead us in the steps of righteous and radical change for the injustices that we endure.
